Debian
Debian is the mother of 100’s of Linux distribution including Ubuntu. Most of the application written for any of the Linux distributions in Debian family will run on Debian with little or no change and the vice-versa is also true. Debian is created and maintained by the community. It has one of the largest repository in the Linux community. Debian is treated as very stable and secure and hence it is used in s production environment. Debian maintains three branches/versions of the distribution, namely stable, testing and unstable.

Ubuntu
Ubuntu is a Debian derivative which is backed by Canonical Ltd. Ubuntu maintains a balance between new and stable packages. Ubuntu is considered as the most user-friendly Linux distribution in the Linux community, especially for those newbies who has prior experience with Windows. Ubuntu comes in three version viz., cloud, server and Desktop. Several Linux distributions are derivatives of Ubuntu including Linux Mint.
